My final and finished DPS

Though i have not yet saved it as a JPEG, this is my final DPS. I am completely happy with all the elements, the house style and the layout.

Adjustments to front cover

I also made some adjustments to my front cover. I changed the shape of the text boxes on the left, so that they were in line better and looked neater. I made them have stroke round them as this put emphasis on them more. I made them all the same size as one of them was bigger and longer than the other, so i moved the text around inside it to, to accomadate this. I changed the colour of 'global gathering' and 'creamfields' so that it stood out against the text with it because its the important part of that section. I put stroke around the 'rainbow' so that this stood out more, and put bevel and emboss around the cover line 'exclusive miguel.p..'. I still have a few little adjustments to make to my front cover, but not too many.

Contents completed up to date

This is my third contents draft completed, i have made lots of little changes as iv gone along. Iv made the 'interviews and music news' on two seperate lines so that its not sticking out. I have put stroke and bevel and emboss and drop shadow on all of my text boxes so they have a bigger impact on the page and stand out. Iv put inner shadow and stroke on all my headings in the three seperate text boxes. Iv also put stroke round each of the square shape pictures, but not on the pictures i used the magnetic lasso tool on. I put the page number with the picture it matches as i thought this looked more proffesional, i also put stroke around the page number so that its easiar to read agaisnt some of the pictures with brighter colours. I changed the position of my 'editors comment' to the far right bottom corner, with the text boxes background colour blended into the actual background colour of the page, but to make it stand out with a stroke around the box. The editors picture also has stroke around the edge. I changed the position of my logo aswell, i moved my contents higher up the page and sort of blended the logo in, by saying 'inside i heart house' with elipsis. Also with the editors comment box, i did have it higher but then the picture above it had the legs underneath showing and it looked silly, so i moved the box down to hide this.

How i got exact colour matches

To make sure i got exact colour matches, on the colour changer for each colour there are a certain amount of letters with specific numbers. When i found the perfect purple i wanted for my text boxes on my contents, i wrote down each number for each letter so that for each seperate text box all i needed to do was to enter the numbers so i got the exact same colour. Before i chose the purple for definate, i done this with the blue aswell, incase i chose the blue and needed it for all three text boxes.

text boxes on contents page

I decided to put my information on the left of my contents page into text boxes. This will benefit me because it will make it look alot neater, and will also give me a sort of margin for my text to finish, so that it is all in a straight line format, and not just sentences finishing everywhere. I also chose two colours for my text boxes background, a blue and a purple. I compared the two and chose the purple as it fitted better with my house style, and the blue was slightly to dark. I made sure all the text boxes in line either side, and one wasnt bigger in width than the other.

adjustments to contents page

After i got my final drawing draft of my contents completed, i started to create it. Throughout the proccess i made changes, by putting page numbers with the pictures so that my audience can go straight to that page if they like the picture. I think this way is alot more appealing, and looks better on the page.

Final drawing draft

This is my final drawing draft of my contents. I am keeping it this way as I'm alot happier with this layout. I may make a few changes in the process of making it but I shall be sticking to this drawing.

Contents page after re-work

This is the result of my contents page after I drew a second drawing plan to make adjustments. When I was actually doing it I also made changes to colours of text. I changed the title 'contents' from black to lilac, but then realised the lilac was a bit light for the contents so I changed it further to a gradient of dark blacks, purples an reddish browns. I originally planned to have all my page headings the same colour but I alternated with deep purple to bright red back to deep purple. I made the text box with the editors comment inside, a lilac colour so it stood out but didn't clash with the rest of the page, just keeping the text inside a simple black. I tried out navy blue for the text but it didn't look good. I also originally had headphones slightly coming into the page at the top right across the end of 'contents' but I decided to scrap them as they looked tacky and out of place.

Up to date draft of contents page

This is the drawing draft I completed for my contents page after the first draft. This is where I made changes, as lots of elements in my first draft were weak. I made sure my main text in the kind of mid centre is in line an not all out of place everywhere. I made captions for the pictures seperate an moved them next to the picture, instead of all together in the bottom right hand corner. I cut down my 'comment from the editor' as it was taking up a lot of my page an looked messy so I tidied it up. I used a text box also to make it stand out on the page. I also put my certain page numbers under specific headings. I benefited from this as each page with related stories are under the same heading so if someone was looking specifically for gigs they could look at the heading gigs an events an see which pages they are on. It's made my contents page look alot more professional, how ever it still needs some more work.

First drawing draft of contents page

This was my first drawing draft of my contents page. Since creating it like this I have made changes an I still have ideas to change it more.

Adjustments to DPS

Our first draft of all parts of our music magazine was due in Friday 15th of Feburary. We got our feedback today and i have made adjustments to my DPS as certain elements were weaker than others. The first image was my first draft, the second image is my DPS which iv made further adjustments to. I changed the colour of the background of the question and answer boxes from dark purple to lilac, so that the text is easier to be seen. I also changed the colour of the quote in the center of my DPS page from red to deep purple, as the red no longer went with the lilac and also the change to deep purple with the lilac was a contrast. I also added 'stroke' onto the quote so it was easy to read and stood out, especially when it comes across my image on the far right.

Question and answer plan sheet for interview

These are the questions i came up with to use on my DPS. This benefited me because i was organised and i had the questions infront of me, instead of spending ages fiddling about without a plan. I chose 15 questions, as i thought this was a fair amout and i didnt want to take up to much room.

First drafts for music magazine

This Is my first draft of my front cover. I have made lots of adjustments since I started the process an re-arranged pictures and text ect. The second photo is the draft of my contents page. I still have lots of things I want to add an change with it but its looking a lot better than when I first started. I need to think about using my audience profile to help make it look more appealing. Finally my last photo is the draft for my DPS, an I am pretty happy with this so far. It's exactly what my drawing draft looked like an it all went well together. Throughout my first draft in all three sections iv kept the house style the same, using a max of four fonts across the whole magazine.

DPS picture so far

I have taken my interview scenario picture for my DPS but I still have to take one more, which will be a long shot of my model acting out singing. I took lots so that I had a good amount to choose from, the first picture is the one I'm going to use.

More photos for music mag

These are more photo's I have taken, which have the two male models in. One is for my front cover and another one is for the contents page, but I took more so that I had variety an different locations to see which ones best. I also took the interview picture I need for my DPS, but still have one picture outstanding I need to take.

Media publishing evaluation

Which publisher would you go to publish your magazine and why?
I would choose IPC because with IPC they have their main section but they also have smaller divisions which are specifically for a type of magazine. Also as IPC has these smaller divisions, they would be able to spend more time on my magazine an help with the publishing. Unlike Bauer as they have so many they won't just focus on one specific magazine. However Bauer has more music magazines within their ownership so would have more of a place for my music magazine. I still would use IPC though for the reasons above and also because its the biggest media publisher in the world. I have posted a picture of the research I did which helped me to come to my conclusion about IPC.

Front cover music mag draft

This is the draft of my front cover for my music magazine. I made sure my picture was in the 2nd third of the page with my models eyes in the centre eye line. Iv got my main text on the left third so that if it was on a stand in a shop you can see the most interesting parts which would make you want to buy it. Iv chosen bright colours for my masthead an also on the rest of the front cover so that my house style is bright an matches my genre which is electric and bright.

Research analysis of DPS

Today we took a DPS from a music magazine an analysed what is included in it I.e. images, text, the house style, how that develops a house style, how the pictures go with the genre an the mise-en-scene. I got a lot from this lesson as I learnt what sort of things go into a DPS, an how I should put them across to my audience. I also took from it how important the house style is, an how I can keep it consistent throughout my double page spread.

Photo shoot plan

I had lots of idea's for my pictures I'm using on my front cover, contents page and DPS. I won't be using all the ones iv planned on the sheet but I'm trying out all of them. This will benefit me because I will have more variety to choose from. Also if some don't go as well as others I should have a few good ones which I will be able to use, as more to start off with is better than too few.

Front cover photo shoot for music mag

During the photo shoot I took lots of photo's. I styled my model how I wanted her to look, an used two different places to take my photo's to see which turnt out best. I have some taken against a nude colour wall, an some against a vibrant black and white wall. The pictures against the black an white wall were no good as I worked out that my text would be hard to read and may be to complicated to work with. Whereas the plain wall was perfect as it made the mise-en-scene of my model stand out better, an would also make the text a lot easier to be seen. Some of these photo's aren't suitable as I have cut off the models arms, or her position is not right. However the better photo's are good medium shots an have nothing cut out.
